Today you are 5 months old. I cannot believe how big you are getting! This month you decided to show mommy and daddy that you are not a tiny baby anymore by suddenly showing off an impressive array of new skills. You love to “talk” to us and you get quite passionate during conversations. Your favorite sound to make is “dadada” and I know it’s only a matter of time before you match that name with one of your favorite people. You also pay close attention to mommy and daddy when we talk and you try to copy our mouths, moving your lips to try to form the words we are saying. You are such a smart girl and I love seeing you learn right before our eyes.

You are growing stronger and stronger everyday. You can now sit up by yourself pretty well. You still need a little assistance though because, if you see a toy you want when you are sitting up, you will lounge for it and topple right over. You’ll get there though, and I bet in a few more weeks you will be sitting up nice and steady. You roll all over the place, both back to stomach and stomach to back. You are getting into the trouble making stage while changing your diaper, since as soon as we put you on the diaper table, you start rolling all over the place! You are SO interested in trying to crawl. You lie on your belly, lifting up on your arms and then pushing your bum high in the air. I can see your body trying to figure out how to get yourself to move across the floor to get to that toy you want, but you just aren’t there yet. Don’t worry if it takes you a few more months to get it down, mommy’s not sure if she’s ready for you to be on the move yet!

This month you tried your first solid foods, rice cereal and mashed bananas. You weren’t crazy about either, but you did enjoy mashing bananas into your highchair tray. I’m not too worried about you starting to eat real food yet, but it’s been fun to watch you try new things.

You are starting to get a bit weary of strangers. You definitely show your preference for mommy and daddy and have cried a few times when other people try to hold you. You prefer to give others smiles and coos from the safety of our arms, and that is totally fine with mommy. Your smiles still continue to melt everyone’s hearts. One of your teachers at daycare told me that you have such a “sweet and beautiful soul” and I agree 100%.

Your perfect bald head is starting to spout some new fluffy hair! Mommy and daddy were both shocked when your hair started to grow in blonde. What happened to all that gorgeous black hair you were born with!? You’re just starting to look more and more like your daddy everyday!
We can’t wait to see what this month brings, our gorgeous, happy girl.
We love you!
Mommy and Daddy

I can’t believe how big she’s gotten since Christmas!! Slow down, little one, you’re growing way too fast!

I love that first black and white shot – she looks so very pleased with herself.

Well, she didn’t really love either of them! I would say that she definitely seemed to enjoy the consistency of the rice cereal better than the bananas (I made the cereal so thin, it was almost a liquid). The bananas seemed to be too thick, even “milked down” and she didn’t seem to like the feel of them in her mouth. She would make a face and immediately spit them out. She didn’t seem to love the taste of the cereal, but she still swallowed more of that than the bananas. I think I’ll try a fruit or veggie mixed with the cereal next time to see what she thinks!
